Visually, Mace Griffin is boasting bump-mapped everything and splendid lighting that will make Xbox owners proud. At this point they still leave themselves far too vulnerable but they do attack intelligently in numbers surrounding you and moving in for the kill when the opportunity arises. But we have observed enemies using cover and strafing to keep us pinned down. and feel of the game beyond a few controlled situations. We haven't had a chance to really measure the A.I. The actual take off and landing sequences are automated so that while you're in the tractor beam you don't have to worry about steering, but you're still free to roam around your ship and check stuff out while your ship makes its final approach or launches into space. We have new movies that show just how the sequence goes, but just know that there's no better feeling than whooping an entire space station's, finding your ship in the hangar, boarding it, taking a few minutes to admire the architecture and then hopping in the pilots seat. The most endearing part of Mace Griffin, transferring seamlessly back and forth between space combat and first person shooting, is still intact and as cool looking as ever. Throw in nice intricate reload and idle animations that are specific to each weapon and your intimate relationship with Mace Griffin's weapons will definitely be something special. The rocket launcher and it's top-loading "missile magazine" lets you see each individual rocket drop down into the chamber, whether you're loading up one or four at a time. ![]() When you lock and load four shotgun shells into the quad shotgun you see an indicator fill up letting you know how many shells you've got loaded and then the meter empties out as you rapidly buck down enemies. The developers have take it a step beyond making the barrels spin on the minigun. We had seen screens and barely functional weapons before, but getting a chance to see them in action really made an impression on me because firepower is everything in a game like this.Īlmost every weapon Mace carries has some sort of animation or intricate articulation so that it seems like a working piece of machinery instead of some lifeless hunk of plastic at the end of his arm. The biggest difference I noticed was the weapons Mace is going to be toting throughout his adventures.
